Not Sure If Related...: Djibril Cisse and Laurence Fishburne

It's been a long while since I last posted a "Not Sure If Related..." page. So here's another one I stumbled upon just yesterday night.

So yesterday was Saturday and that meant football night here in the Philippines for me. My favorite team, Manchester United, is set to fight London outfit Queens Park Rangers at 11:00 PM local time. Until then, I turned the TV to HBO and watched 'Contagion' - this was just to expend time, as I already watched the movie when it was released some time ago.

An hour later, the movie still wasn't finished but I had to switch to the game, for it was already on. Just before half-time, I saw QPR's Djibril Cisse do a cool pass towards his teammate Jamie Mackie who headed the ball into the net. The goal was disallowed for Mackie was offside (See the full match review of the Manchester United v QPR game here). The camera then pans to Cisse to get his reaction. At that point, 'Contagion' came back to me. Cisse looked like Laurence Fishburne!

Check out their portraits side-by-side above. You be the judge.

Not Sure If Related...: Mesut Ozil and Rob Schneider

Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for another "Not Sure if Related..." post. :)

First off, I'd like to congratulate my favorite national football team, Germany, for beating Faroe Islands in a smashing 3-0 game for the World Cup qualifiers. Well done.

Now, Fox Home Movies has been showing a lot of Adam Sandler movies recently like 50 First Dates and Big Daddy, among others. Of these movies, Adam Sandler always has his buddy, Rob Schneider, along in those films. While watching one of these films, I couldn't help but feel something about Scheider's face, as if he looked very familiar but couldn't quite put it.

Then I watched Germany battle Faroe Islands in the FIFA World Cup qualifier this early morning. That's when I saw Mesut Ozil drive those two cracking second-half goals home and realized, "Hey, he looks like Rob Schneider!"

I Googled their pictures, and sure enough, there is a resemblance (Check out  the image I made above for comparison). My younger brother said, "yeah, at a certain angle and lighting." Not much of a "yes", but an agreement nonetheless.

How about you, what do you think? Do they look alike, or are my eyes just deceiving me?

Not Sure If Related...: Robin Van Persie and Jay Baruchel

Here we go again with another "Not Sure if Related" segment. The past two segments have been relatively successful, hits-wise, so it is but prudent to continue in this line. (Check out the other "Not Sure if Related" posts located in the farthest right column of this page, below "blog archives")

One of the person in our pairing today has rocked the footballing community (yeah, soccer, for my viewers in the United States) in recent weeks when it came to his club future. That guy is none other than Robin van Persie, who was the marquee signing of my favorite team, Manchester United, this past off-season. He left his former club Arsenal, where he was captain, to shift to the Red Devils.

His pair is someone whose one movie I was able to watch this past week. So I was watching a DVD copy of The Sorcerer's Apprentice when I saw actor Jay Baruchel in one scene and the camera angle on his face got me thinking, "that face looks familiar..." and at that moment it wasn't clear, but I thought he looked liked Robin Van Persie. Not to be deterred, I searched for his image on the internet, to contrast it with the Dutch footballer. Check out the image above and see what I've came up with.

Notice that? Not much similarities, but perhaps it was the hair and the eyes that brought in the resemblance. Try Googling other images for these two, and form your own opinion about it. As for me, I really think there's some similarity there, or its probably just a hat-trick, or rather, a "hair-trick".

Yeah... there's a lame joke somewhere in that last sentence...

So, what do you think? Any similarities?

Not Sure If Related...: Daniel Bryan and Mark Webber

The first ever "Not Sure If Related..." blog post I did was between Mario Gomez and Charlie Sheen (More on that post here). It was such a huge success that I decided to make it a regular here in my site.

Now, this following comparison was actually the first one that inspired this whole segment, even before Mario Gomez and Charlie Sheen. So I was watching Scott Pilgrim vs The World in HBO about a month ago. Apart from the comical scenes and the epic portrayal of Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, one character that struck me was Stephen Stills, Pilgrim's friend played by actor Mark Webber. I can't quite put my intrigue until I realized, "What the hell? He looks like WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan!"

Here's their image side-by-side and you be the judge:

Now, the image doesn't exactly show a strong resemblance, but it is still a resemblance none the less. I suggest that if you're going to pursue this thread, then watch the movie yourself and then decide.

As far as I'm concerned on whether they look alike, my answer is "Yes! Yes! Yes!" :)

So, thoughts?

Not Sure If Related...: Mario Gomez and Charlie Sheen

I've been following the Euros for quite a while now. My bets are on Germany and Spain, so it is but usual for a guy like me to follow their matches. Here's one peculiar observation.

Now, a prelude: For those of you who do not know me personally, and as it can be seen in my profile picture, I wear corrective lenses. I have been wearing them for a long while now, so they could need changing. Having said that, let's take a look at this image.

So... is it just me, or does the German international footballer and Bayern Munich star Mario Gomez look like the famous (or infamous, depending on one's perspective) Charlie Sheen? For the record, I mean no disrespect, but this is mere observation.

Of course, the pictures I've selected could be a bit biased. Both conveniently have shaggy, unkempt hair and the angles tend to portray some semblance, but then again, that seems to be the point. At some angles, Gomez seem to look like Sheen. Then again, you could search for more Sheen and Gomez pictures at Google, see how things fare out.

As I've said, it could be just me.

Thoughts?
